About the Poet: Nilmani Phookan (born 1933, Assam,India) is a well-known Assamese poet, essayists  and translator. He has published 13 volumes of poetry. He won many awards: Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese (1981); Assam Valley Literary Award (1997); Sahitya Akademi Fellowship (2002). He was awarded the Padmashree by the Government of India in 1990.
